"Cheryl burst into tears of joy when I told her I was pregnant."

Can I use "got" instead of "was" in the sentence above?

Cheryl burst into tears of joy when I told her I got pregnant.

What is the difference in meaning between them? Thank you.

She got pregnant at one very specific moment. She was pregnant from that time until she gave birth. It is traditional to tell people you are pregnant - but not to share the details of getting pregnant. :)
