Please explain what "bursting into leaf" means:
"When I got my first sight of the gardens the beauty of it nearly took my breath away. The trees were just bursting into leaf, fresh and green and lovely, ..."
In northern climates, spring often seems to happen overnight. It feels as if one day there are still patches of snow, the next day the buds are opening on the trees, and the next day there's almost a green mist in the branches as the leaves open.
It really does seem as if the leaves are "bursting" or "exploding" out of the branches.
