¿Alguien sabe qué significa la expresión "Butt Covering"?

Butt can refer to the butt of a rifle, a cigarette butt etc.
I assume though it refers to buttocks, covering your butt/back to make sure you don´t get the blame for something ...cubrir tu culo/trasero.

Actually, this is something regarding the Trust in the electronical communications. I guess the best I can do is just to paste the whole sentence:

When trust is low - tension is high, there is too much politicking and “butt covering" - it is like walking in a mine field. Communication is difficult if not impossible.

I've translated as follows:
Cuando hay poca confianza: - la tensión es alta, hay demasiado politiqueo y "butt covering" - es como andar en un campo de minas. La comunicación es difícil si no impossible.

I've been thinking and I changed it. It's an oficial document so "cubriendo tu trasero" doesn't fit in a formal doc.

I've done it like this:
Cuando hay mala confianza – la tensión es alta, hay demasiado politiqueo y “cosas turvias” a cubrir - es como andar en un campo

Butt covering doesn´t sound official or formal to me.
However, you could say la gente escurre el bulto/ no acepta la responsabilidad.
Cosas turbias isn´t quite the same.

I agree, butt covering is very informal. I presume that is why it is written inside quotation marks.
