"The devil!" Manton flushed red. "This is no place to smoke. By—by all the wives of Goodwin and all the stars of Griffith I'm going to start firing a few people!"
Context: a movie studio executive is pissed that people smoke inside a film storage room. The time period is 1921.

I don't get that reference. Are those supposed to be some famous literature characters or something?

It's an oath. Manion is swearing on oath on all the wives of Goodwin and all the (film) stars of (director D. W.) Griffith. I'm not sure who Goodwin was but someone will know.
