Hello,

Is there any expression in English for the people we called ''café au lait'' referring to the color of their skin? ( between white & black )

Many thanks
Piotr

''Café au lait'' is used sometimes to describe someone with light brown skin. I haven't heard it recently. I think today it would be more likely to encounter a description like that in a text.

Wouldn't people often use the word "mulatto" in that case? I've never heard "coffee-colored" when referring to skin.

"café-au-lait spots" is a widely used English medical expression, and this term can be used to refer to skin color

"Half cast" is the expression I hear the most, although I'm not sure if some people may find that offensive.

    Maybe "mixed race" also.
