I have a perplexing question from my homework at university:
"The staff at all ten of their centers called a lightning strike"
I have no idea what did they mean by using "called ... strike" here ?

The workers called a sudden/unexpected ("lightning") strike:

a stoppage of activity to force an employer or some authority to agree to demands, or to protest conditions (WR dictionary)
