What do you think the sentences starting with "Can a coin borrow money, ~ stock?" in the dialogue below mean?
(dialogue)
Woman: I’m thinking about putting most of my life savings into gold coins to protect my money. What do you think of this idea?
Man: Everyone should own a little gold, but let me ask you some questions. Can a coin borrow money, hire great employees, acquire other businesses, or issue new stock?

Thanks in advance.

"borrow money, hire great employees, acquire other businesses, or issue new stock" are all things that a business can do, and which - if done successfully - have the potential to considerably increase the value of that business and hence also the value of an investment in that business. The writer is, in effect, pointing out the de-merits of investment in gold coin, which does not have that same potential for growth.
