canaliser la fréquentation

I'm translating the French text of a short documentary film about preserving and protecting fragile Mediterranean shoreline habitats. This is the sentence I'm working on now:
Dans le cadre du « Life Lag’nature », on a réalisé des aménagements sur cette plage pour canaliser la fréquentation et sécuriser des secteurs un peu fragile des dunes.
I know it means to control access in such a way as to keep people on paths in order to protect the surrounding environment, but I haven't been able to come up with a satisfactory and brief translation for "canaliser la fréquentation".
Any suggestions?

You could say "channel the foot traffic" if the context indicates that it's pedestrians. Otherwise something like "control access".
