Does this meet touching candlesticks, raised, as would would tap two wine glasses?

    Maybe it means we stuck a candle each in a candle-holder. I believe it was customary in (e.g.) 19th century households to shake hands at the end of an evening and then take one of the candles that had been burning to light one's way upstairs.
