car ran steadily smoothly

Hello:

I drove my car with my daughter, she said to me: "The car is jolting." I answered: "No, our car is not jolting, the car is running
steadily/smoothly. "

Can I use "steadily" or "smoothly" to mean that the car was not moving from side to side or up and down? The car only moved in a uniform speed in a straight line.

Thank you.

As long as the car was functioning normally, it made sense to say that it was running "smoothly". I don't think I'd use "steadily" in that remark.
