It's just a name, LinguaFan, albeit an unusual one.

As far as I know, it's not short for anything.

St. Chad, about whom one can read in St. Bede the Venerable's famous Historia ecclesiastica gentis Anglorum, was a Seventh Century English bishop of what would eventually become the Diocese of Lichfield. The Anglican Lichfield Cathedral is dedicated to Saint Mary and Saint Chad, and St. Chad's relics are now found in the Roman Catholic cathedral in Birmingham, which is named "St. Chad's" after him.

In BE, Chad is short for Chadwick which apparantly either comes from an old English word for a dairy farm or the Welsh for battle. Take your pick.
