    We would need some context to determine the precise meaning... but to change one's tune typically means, like you said, to change your attitude or (metaphorical) direction.

    It can also mean that he changed his story. If someone swears that they weren't at a particular place at a particular time, they might "change their tune" if confronted with evidence that they were (such as surveillance video.)
