    "To chant" usually means that something is relayed in a monotone, regular way, like Gregorian Chant, for example. It is possible to "chant" a poem, but it is an unusual use of the verb. "Recite", "read", or even "perform" in some circumstances, and with some types of poetry, would be more usual.
