check the dictionary or check out the dictionary

Senior Member
What is the difference between' check' and ' check out'? In the following sentences, which one is correct?

I am not sure about the spelling. Let me check( or check out ?) the dictionary.

I am not sure who worte the book. Let me check( or check out) the Internet.

If you have more questions about this, check( or check out?) your handouts.

To check out would be to inspect or appraise. I would use "check the dictionary" and "check on the Internet."
