I recently came across a beautiful song from a Sicilian band named Agricantus. It is entitled "Ciavula". The lyrics are provided. I simply wanted to know the translation of the word in English, or maybe even further like what the song is about since I have no idea how to even begin to translate Sicilian.

I cosi ca mi retti lu to amuri
traseru 'nfunnu o cori
e si vaju pi pinsari a tia
u sangu m'acchiana.

Vaju giranno sulu 'ntunnu 'ntunnu
e i to manu vaju circannu
ri quannu u tempu s'inchiuvò pi tia
e s'arrubbò u to ciatu.

Ti vaju circannu rispiratu e nun ci si
ri da vota ca pi nuautri u tempu si stagghiò
talìu mennuli ciuruti e mari funnuti
viju a to facci tunna tunna e l'occhi to.

Ciavula, ciavula...
Ciavula, ciavula...
arré cu mia si ccà.

Taliu d'aceddu ca s'ammisca o celu
e arricanusci a tia
alma ca vola menzu u ventu.

Ammucciannuti rarreri
a na chiuviddicata
unni c'è u suli ca m'arriquaria u cori.

Ora c'addivintasti ciavula
vola leggia leggia 'ncapu o ventu
e no stramentri m'addummisciu lentu lentu
pi 'nsunnarimi ca volu cu tia, volu.

Ciavula, ciavula...
Ciavula, ciavula...
arré cu mia si ccà
Ciavula, ciavula...
Ciavula, ciavula...
arré cu mia si ccà.

    Hi and welcome to WRF!
Ciavula should be the Sicilian word for taccola (jackdaw). :);)

    Oops...crossing Tim...

Anyway remember Forum Rules: Song lyrics and verse may be quoted and translated, up to a maximum of 4 lines.
