Cinematography lessons/classes

Senior Member

If I am taking lessons to learn how to make a movie, can I say "I am taking cinematography lessons."? or is there a more colloquial expression for that?

Thanks in advance.

Lessons are something I associate with schools and schoolchildren. Adults go to classes.

Edit: The only exception for me would be "music lessons". You don't have "piano classes", you have "piano lessons". I don't know why this is the case.

I think lessons doesn't fit because it's not a skill. When you take piano lessons you are developing the physical skill of playing a musical instrument. You take lessons then practice what you learned in the lessons.

You don't take cinematography lessons and then practice cinematography until the next lesson.
