Hi all, can "cleanse" or "cleansing" be used with reference to house cleaning? For example:

We are doing cleansing at home.

Many thanks!

No, the meaning of "cleansing" is different – it's similar to "purifying".

Cleansing a house sounds like you're holding an exorcism, or at least getting rid of some kind of infestation, rather than just doing the normal housework. :)

Yet one can clean the house using "household cleansers". What a language we have.

The term "household cleanser" in BE is almost exclusively reserved for products that are claimed to be antibacterial ("kills 99% of all known germs!"). Cleaning products generally are "cleaners": e.g. "surface cleaner", "oven cleaner".
