I'd like to know if there is a difference of meaning between the two sentences :" I 'm climbing up the tree " and " I'm climbing the tree."
Thanks

If one was being a pedant.....

Climb up means you are moving higher off the (flat) ground that is under the tree.
Climb the tree means you are in it climbing: but to climb higher you may have to climb down sometimes to get a better route.

    GF..

    Any comments?
