Hello!
Please could you explain to me what 'clinch the nomination' means?

Since the candidate clinched the nomination, the green room has become a chilly place.
With enough delegates already in hand to clinch the nomination, the immediate importance of the primary has been vastly diminished.
By most calculations, Dole had clinched the nomination a week ago, when he swept four Midwest primaries.

He has made it certain that he will receive the nomination. Note that the actual nomination only occurs at the nominating convention -- but if you have more than half of the total delegates pledged to you before the nomination begins, then it is very clear that you are going to be the nominee. When that happens, you are said to clinch the nomination.
