clip someone's wings

I would like to know if the phrase "limare le unghie a qualcuno" could equate with "clip someone's wings".
My thanks in advance

I'm afraid not: to clip someone's wings is "tarpare le ali a qualcuno".

As per "limare le unghie" (to file one's nails)... I can't think of an idiomatic meaning in Italian.
Maybe "spuntare gli artigli" (to clip the claws)? This would mean to make someone's "weapons" ineffective...

Is that what you were looking for?
