This is an extended metaphor: Minor is compared to a fisherman who "trawls" for words/sentences/quotations (i.e. picks them up from his reading) and chooses the very best from his finds - "from the cod of his net" - for use in a book.

I had no idea I meant William Minor. But "Minor" just had to be a name for the sentence to make sence.

Moja próba:
Minor musiał mieć teraz absolutny wzgląd na to co czytał, aby skrupulatnie wyłowić wszystko czego potrzebowała drużyna Muuraya, i ostatecznie wybrać spośród dorszy/ryb(ek) schwytanych w (zastawione przez niego) sieci*, najlepsze możliwe/z możliwych hasła, które następnie wysyłał aby zostały załączone do książki.

* w tym miejscu użyłbym trochę innej metafory, ponieważ, moim zdaniem, ta z rybami nie brzmi za dobrze w polskim; pokusiłbym sie o: zwierzyny schwytanej w (zastawione przez niego) sidła
