Does anyone know what the equivalent terms for these relating to the British banking system are? I think that 'code guichet' = sort code (according to another Wordreference thread), but in that case what does 'code banque' mean.

    Merci d'avance

I don't know if you are referring to this thread, but I post the link, just in case ;)

No I wasnt Nil, although it is helpful in confirming that 'code guichet' = 'sort code' in UK English. I still need to know what 'code banque' means. Any ideas?

    Hi

Each bank has a specific code. For example, Credit Lyonnais is 30002 (I think). This is followed by the "guichet" code is the specific bank branch.

    Is that a bit clearer?

    Hello,
I am looking at a French payment reminder letter, and i would like to know how you would translate le code de la banque.

For more context, the full sentence is "si toutefois votre réglement nous était parvenu par virement... nous vous saurions gré de nous informer de la date de la transaction ainsi que du code de la banque"

My guess would be either the bank's branch code, or a reference code of some kind?

    Thanks for your help!

Thanks JFLV77, does anyone know how it would be translated into English? I'm still somewhat unclear about what these numbers stand for/indicate. I am trying to translate the phrase (which I probably should have mentioned before!)
    Thanks all!

In the states, it's called a routing number.
