collateral damage

Senior Member
Situation1: two people fight eachother and I am looking on the scene. About one of them hit me unintentionally.

Situation 2: The whole village infected infectious disease. And I have not been inside the village, but only passed by in a trip and unfortunately infected the disease.

Is there a good phrase to describe the situations? I checked out a phrase “collateral damage”, which means injury inflicted on something other than an intended target.

Can I say “I got collateral damage when looking on a fight on street?” or is there any better phrase to express the situations.
