Hello,
I think that I am familiar with the difference, but on MacMillan I came across these sentences "The police has been gathering evidence against him". and "Evidence collected by the police".? They might sound odd to you, but can we interchage them in both sentences?

    Yes, they are interchangeable in both sentences.
