Hola,

Deseo que me ayuden con una inquietud. Existe alguna diferencia entre College o University. Por ejemplo cual es la diferencia entre "Trinity College" o "University of Harvard"

    • Los dos son estudios "superiores", es decir después del colegio (high school), sin embargo el uno es más como un Instituto (al menos así sería considerado en Ecuador, son carreras más cortas), y el otro es una Universidad. De todas maneras hay personas que estudian en los dos y obtienen más créditos.
     
    Estoy leyendo los foros acerca de "college vs. university". Todos están pidiendo una explicación de la diferencia, pero lo que necesito es ayuda con esta traducción:

    Students that go to a college or university......

    Mi intento es:
    Los estudiantes que asisten a una escuela de educación superior o universidad.....

    o tal vez una escuela superior o universidad???

    This is very country-specific: the translations that pauloliebre gave you look like standard Spanish, but in Mexico the equivalents would be secundaria, preparatoria and universidad.

    It might be useful to know what target readership your text is intended for.
     
    In the United States, "college" and "university" are largely interchangeable. The main difference in the US is that colleges which are not universities grant only the degrees of B.A./B.S and often M.A./M.S., while universities give the additional degree of Ph.D.

    The use of the words "college" and "university" in the UK, however, is very different.
     
    Depende del público meta, en México sería algo como:

    School = Puede ser: Escuela Primaria, Colegio, Secundaria, Preparatoria
    College = Escuela, Instituto o incluso Universidad
    University = Universidad

    A mí me parece buena tu opción de Escuela de Educación Superior para College, en el caso de México.

    Son más o menos igual, por los menos en los EEUU. Si dices "university", sueña más prestigioso. Por ejemplo:

    I go to the University of Oregon (sueña como buen universidad, conocido en todo el país)
    I go to Springfield Community College (una universidad técnica, no muy conocido, de gente en este ciudad)

    Pero, la cosa es que normalmente la gente dice "I go to college" o "Do you go to college" si hablas de la universidad en general, no importa si vas a "Springfield Community COllege" o "The University of Oregon" o "Harvard University".

    Pero de repente es diferente en inglaterra.

    I am a college student. I am in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Florida. I hope to get an advanced degree from the College of Medicine at the University of Florida when I graduate. University students are usually called "college students"(or graduate students if working on an advanced degree.) Colleges are smaller and usually offer only one degree. A university, which is a collection of colleges, offers several different degrees and usually various graduate and post-graduate degrees.

    Oh yeah, I forgot. "College" can also be "facultad".
