Come out: become known

Hello everyone,

Does "come out" meaning "(of news, the truth, etc.) to become known" sound natural/correct in the examples I made below?

a. When the crime came out, everyone was shocked.
b. The corruption scheme came out after an interview.

Thank you in advance!

No, unfortunately it doesn't. It needs something to go with it to sound natural, for example:

    a) When news of the crime came out...
    b) The scale of the corruption scheme came out...

Similarly: "When the truth comes out..." for the future.

It's not the crime or the corruption that comes out, it is one of its characteristics - scale, truth, type etc.
