Hello.

"Haruto was taken to hospital where he subsequently died."
Isn't it necessary to place a comma between "hospital" and "where"?

Alleged heat stroke victim suffered temperatures up to 50 degrees Celsius in van

KITAKYUSHU -- A boy who died after being left inside his nursery school's van under a scorching afternoon sun could have suffered temperatures of up to 50 degrees Celsius, police have found.

Local police conducted a test on the van where 2-year-old Haruto Hamasaki was found collapsed on Friday. Haruto was taken to hospital where he subsequently died.

According to his postmortem certificate, his body temperature was 40.8 degrees Celsius at the time he was admitted to the hospital.

Investigators are questioning officials of Nakai Nursery School in Kokurakita-ku, Kitakyushu, on suspicion of professional negligence resulting in death. (Mainichi)

  • A comma is unnecessary between hospital and where. Two independent clauses need not be joined by a comma when a coordinating conjunction is used. Where performs that chore.
