Hi.

"This moves leads to disaster, but a move like 6...Nf6 would also have created unsolvable problems after 7.Ng5!,, when Black's f7-pawwn falls."(from Play Winning Chess, p.139)

Why did the author used so many commas?I don't know which is which! Couldyou help me please?
Thanks in advance!

  • Yes, but it would have been clearer as: "This moves leads to disaster; but a move like 6...Nf6 would also have created unsolvable problems after 7.Ng5!, when Black's f7-pawn falls."

Exceptionally, the exclamation mark can be followed by a comma! That's because the exclamation mark isn't punctuation, it's a chess symbol meaning "dangerous move" (or "check"? I'm sure you know which).

    check symbol is '+'
    dangerous(dubious) move symbol is '?!'
exclam. is the symbol for good move.

'when' means the mere fact that f7-oawn will be lost would creat unsolvable problems, or that the f7-pawn will be lost as a result of 7.Ng5?
