comma with date: your letter dated 10, September 2010

Hi,
I'm working on a document which has correspondence from people with different levels of English, and would like to confirm that this is actually wrong. As far as I'm concerned, if you're going to use a comma when writing dates, it should go before the year, and not after the day, as it is here:

"As you stated in your letter dated 10, September 2010."

Yes, that is very much incorrect.

You'd write 10 September(,) 2010
or September 10, 2010

While a comma after the day of the month is probably incorrect everywhere, both the most common and the alternative acceptable formats for writing dates vary from place to place. Many threads here discuss this topic. The most complete discussion is probably in this one.
