Hi,
Here are some words from the novel Lady Chatterley's Lover( para.71) by Lawrence(the University of Adelaide, here):

It was nearly a mile to the cottage, and Connie senior was well red by Connie junior by the time the game-keeper’s picturesque little home was in sight. The child was already as full to the brim with tricks as a little monkey, and so self-assured.

Normally, We say "very red" when "red" is an adjective. So I suspect here "red" is a verb .
Am I right? If not, what does "was well red by Connie junior" mean please?

Thank you in advance
