Hello. Do you think that "consensus builder" is synonymous with "to bring people together"? Take, for example, the following sentence.

The candidate for Congress touted her support among gays to show that she was a consensus builder.

In the example, the idea is that the candidate is good at bringing people together.

What do you think?

Thanks.

No "consensus builder is a noun - ""to bring people together" is a verbal phrase. "consensus builder" = someone who creates agreement between groups and/or individuals.

Yes, that is the idea, where "bringing people together" = finding consensus between groups and/or individuals.

The example you have given does not demonstrate consensus-building. Consensus-building would be demonstrated by someone bringing together communities who are traditionally opposed or at least distinct. Support from a single group does not demonstrate this.

OK. But say she touted her supported among gays, Jews, and immigrants to show that she was a consensus builder.
