    (l'abbé)...fit réaliser d’importants travaux d’aménagement et de reconstruction qui contribuèrent heureusement à l’embellisement de l’abbaye.

    How would I translate this unusual turn of phrase? Made a pleasant/welcome/good contribution to the beautification of the abbey???

    Do you think "succesfully" would work here? I always try to translate "successfully" with heureusement, and it never works. Maybe here?

    Yes, contributed successfully works very nicely. What do you think?

    Abbot Gérard-Joseph Harlez (1713-1779) had significant development and reconstruction work carried out, which contributed successfully to the beautification of the abbey.
