Hello,

Which article sounds more natural?

1) Now it has surfaced that cooking is my genuine passion and the activity giving me the utmost pleasure.
2) Now it has surfaced that cooking is my genuine passion and an activity giving me the utmost pleasure.

Thanks.

I think it depends on whether you consider "utmost pleasure" to be the same as (a) "the most pleasure" (in which case 1 is good), or (b)"a great deal of pleasure" (in which case 2 is better).

Sentence #1 is the one that makes sense to me (if it's your genuine passion, "the" makes sense).

Added comment: "Now it has surfaced" sounds to me as if a team of investigators has come up with this information. We'd say "Now I realize".
