Hello,

What does this sentence tell us?

"And yet Mercer could not escape the suspicion that a better man than he would have sent her rushing to Robin’s side, rather than indulging in a spate of jealousy." L.Carlye, Wicked All day

"And yet Mercer could not escape the suspicion that a better man than he would have sent her rushing to Robin’s side, rather than indulging in a spate of jealousy."
Mercer suspected that he would have behaved as a better man if he had not been jealous, but instead had sent her hurrying to be with Robin.
Does it make sense now? If not, which part is causing you a problem?
