The word "country" means nation or a rual area(an area outside of cities and towns).

I live in the country.

How do I judge the meaning of "country" in this sentance?

  • You can't. You'll have to work it out from the context, although generally, if somebody says
"I live in the country" they are likely to be talking about the countryside (a rural area)
    If somebody said
"I live in that country", they are more likely to be talking about a specific nation.
