créer un mail oblique

Hi again!
I'm afraid I'm stuck with an expression in French that I have never come across before.
This is, again, in the context of a shopping mall and part of the literature describing its overhaul and renovation.
Here they describe doing something to the mall / promenade: 'créer un mail oblique pour assurer une lecture plus facile des enseignes' - but I can't imagine that they mean to build a slanting mall to allow for easier reading of the shop signs!
If someone can shed any light I would be very grateful.
Many thanks in advance

    anyone's guess but
I think it's not about translation but architecture if both sides of the mall are not parallel, you can see more shops, when coming (just close your eyes and think)(enseignes now means "trade mark")

    Thanks pifnane.
I think you're right. It's not about translation. I'm still having trouble visualising this though but this does make it a bit clearer now. Thank you!
