It is also the second person of the conjugation of the verb creure (to believe): jo crec, tu creus, etc...

Both meanings are correct, but as a surname, it obviously comes from creu = cross, so Creus means 'Crosses'.
It's a relatively common surname in Catalonia (670th position in 2020), and proportionately more frequent in some areas of central Catalonia. It's not uncommon either in other Catalan-speaking territories like the Balearic Islands.
