It's not appropriate to criticize others at/behind their back?

Do both at and behind fit in the above and mean about the same to you? Thanks.

    No, at doesn't fit here at all.

    Also, it would be unusual for "others" to share only one back, so I would say:

    It's not appropriate to criticize others behind their backs?
