Context and Situation: The wife and husband were arguing. The wife was dominant and she started to look at her husband in a contemp way. There was something that make husband silent in that look.

Example Sentence: She squelched him with a look of contempt.

Which of the following is correct and idiomatic instead of the original?

1) She crushed him with a look of contempt.

2) She silenced him with a look of contempt.
