Hello,

This is for a photo book about graffiti and urban art. The captions frequently describe pieces involving transformed advertisements (or electoral posters etc.) as "affiche détourné" or "détournement de panneau 3 x 4" etc. Could anyone help with an authoritative term for this kind of artistic practice?

thank you

Thank you Punky Zoé and Archijacq,

I've never heard the term subvertising before. My concern is that it describes the technique (or approach) without describing the physical side - that this is on a billboard or a poster etc.

Does anyone have an idea closer to the French form affiche détourné?

I'm not familiar with the term mock-up poster, but it sounds more like a demo ad than a finished, mass produced ad or poster that has been defaced/transformed.

    Hi
and what about in the context of a musical parody, in a cover song, for example.
"Le détournement d'une chanson" - "the subversion / diversion / hijacking of a song"?
    Thanks!
