About a month later, Daisy's mother found her packing her bag to go to New York. Daisy wanted to say goodbye to an officer who was going overseas. Her family stopped her, of course.

Isn't this werid? Let's look at the context. The sentence Right before this shows Daisy looks like wanting to go to New York. But all of sudden, The green says she just want to say goodbye to an officer because he goes to New york. weird... Is it just me or all of you think same thing as me?

    to an officer because he goes to New York.

    Where does it say the officer is going to New York?

    Overseas = across the ocean.

    In those days you took a ship, not a plane, to go overseas. The ship was leaving from the port in New York to take him overseas. She wanted to travel to New York to say goodbye to him before the ship left.

    He's asked many questions about the book. But he should still list it in each post.
