Danish: at styre vejen

Hello everybody

I would like to know the meaning of this expression which I tried to find with no results until now.

Context: Jeg kender alt til nødvendigheden af at styre vejen for sådan en stenhob, inden den vælger vejen selv.

    Jeg synes også vendingen "at styre vejen" er lidt mærkelig. Normalt finder man vejen, kører eller går på vejen, styrer hen ad vejen - men "vejen" som direkte objekt er formentlig enten "meget kreativ" eller en gammel talevending jeg ikke kender. Men meningen er trods alt klar: Det er en metafor. En stenlavine man må styre en bestemt vej. Stoppe den kan man ikke. Og hvis man ikke forsøger at styre, ruller den derhen, hvor man allermindst vil have det.

    That is a totally different constellation. "denne vej" is adverbial here, not a direct object. In other words "denne vej" - this way - is the direction they are going, not the object - being the vehicle they are drivng, steering, flying or whatever they would do with it.
