Buenas, ¿en inglés cuál sería la forma correcta de decir que te da vergüenza hacer algo? Yo he pensando que puede ser de dos formas pero no sé si están gramaticalmente correctas.
I'm shy to read out loud.
I'm shy about reading out loud.
(Me da vergüenza leer en voz alta)


A lo mejor hay otra forma más natural

    La segunda frase me suena más natural. Otra opción: I'm embarrassed to read aloud.

    Nope, sorry. :(

    I think to use "shy," you're probably going to have to use a preposition (probably "about") and a gerund. Or a clause like "I'm shy when it comes to reading out loud."

    I'm also not sure "shy" is the best word there.

    No, that doesn't work at all. It would be interpreted as meaning "I'm sufficiently shy that I [can] read out loud," which isn't what you're trying to say.
     
    Sorry, I omitted the particle, I meant to say I'm shy enough as not to read out loud, but you need not answer anyways, I know in advance what the answer is...

    La oración de partida es “me da vergüenza leer en voz alta”, no “soy {muy/lo suficientemente} tímido (como) para leer en voz alta”.

    Se puede sentir vergüenza por múltiples razones —el tartamudeo, la dislexia, la voz—. Es muy distinto de ser tímido.

    Yes, but there may be a difference between the two. "Reading aloud is embarrassing for me" might suggest that I read aloud badly, not just that I'm self-conscious. That ambiguity isn't present in the first version.

    I'm not sure I see the distinction.

    I would add, though, that the word you used, "self-conscious" strikes me as the most likely adjective to describe this kind of feeling. "I'm self-conscious about reading out loud."

    Tenés casi el mismo ejemplo en el diccionario de la casa.

    ¿Entonces cómo sería?
    Además, ¿no te puede dar cosa leer en voz alta porque pienses que la gente te vaya a prestar atención y no te gusta por ser tímido?
    Recuerdo poner un segundo ejemplo pero no aparece. En el caso de que te dé vergüenza preguntar por ayuda, por comida... ¿seguiría estando mal la palabra shy?
    Ejemplo:
    I'm shy about asking for help.
    I'm embarrassed to ask for help.
    ¿El segundo ejemplo estaría mejor?

    There is another fine point that no one has mentioned: the difference between "out loud" and "aloud." Both translate to "en voz alta," and the two are nearly interchangeable, but there is a very subtle distinction in usage between them. There are certain set phrases in which "out loud" is used, but not "aloud," such as "for crying out loud" (a euphemism for "for Christ's sake") and "to laugh out loud."

    Also, aloud has a higher register than out loud and is therefore more suitable in formal writing.

    For some reason, "reading aloud" sounds slightly better to me than "reading out loud."

    I liked this one I think it's closer to what I was trying to say. Thanksss:)
     
    The correct option is definitely "I'm shy about reading out loud."
    "I'm embarrassed to read out loud" is also grammatically correct, but the meaning is a little different, and my guess is that the first one is what you mean, as this second one seems very strong.
