Just because it's a mild night doesn't mean that dark forces aren't abroad. They're abroad all the time. They're everywhere.

Has The adverb "abroad" been used for the meaning "around" here?
Please explain it.

    English - Northeast US
    "Around" usually means "nearby". "Abroad" is outdoors, and usually does not mean "nearby". Often it means "for hundreds of miles" or further.
