I found a similar topic, however it did not fully answer my question, so instead of digging in the old one, I decided to start this new one.

I am writing a letter. I know that it is directed to a man, but I dont know his name or who he exactly is.
In this case, is it correct to say "dear sir" at the beginning?
I know that the "Dear sir or madam" is the most common one, but it is pretty much awkward to use it when I am sure that im writing to male person.
Could someone give me any advise in this case please?

    Yes, this is perfectly fine.

No it's not! He deserves a capital letter, out of politeness for not knowing his name. So: Dear Sir...:tick:

Well he used a capital in the title so let's give him the benefit of the doubt :)
