Hi there, can anyone help me with the meaning of the following sentence? Is it the crowd that are standing or are the crowd giving him a standing ovation
Lorsque la lumière se rallume dans la salle, après un long silence, la foule debout lui fait une véritable ovation.
Perhaps: When the lights come up in the hall, after a long silence, the crowd gave him a standing ovation.

    Merci d'avance

The crowd is standing, but given the fact that in english you give a "standing ovation", you don't need to mention that the crowd is standing....

    Your translation is fine.

To render 'standing ovation' here, you could say 'le public se lève pour l'applaudir'.
