Debt bondage

#1
I'm looking for a precise translation in French (something which would be recognised by a historican) of the expression "debt bondage". In English, the expression refers to the practice of reducing to slavery people who were unable to pay their debts - a practice that existed in the Roman Empire, I believe, and also in the kind of "indentured work" by which many of the early immigrants to the American colonies paid their passage.

Any ideas would be welcome!

    Hi
Just an extract from Wikipedia :
