I would suggest to add "copertura" to the Italian definitions for "decoy". I am reading a novel in which a female character is described by the author as the "decoy"; she's trapped in a triangle with two other men who have sex together; one of the two men also appears/pretends to have an affair with the female character but does not love her; soon after the female character is defined "decoy", the author goes on by adding that both men are obsessed/anxious over their masculine image; in my opinion, none of the Italian definitions (richiamo, esca, stampo, diversivo) in wordreference is apt to translate "decoy" when used in such sense. The novel is by an American author, if relevant.
