    (1)America had to build up its own defenses.​

    (2)America had to build up its own defense.​
    Which sentence is correct?

    (3) The attack came not from the Germans but from their Asian allies, the Japanese.
    (4) The attack came not from the Germans but from their Asian ally, Japan.

    This seems to be correct

    ... America had to build up its own defense.
    ... The attack came not from the Germans but from their Asian allies, Japan.

    buddy but i am not sure ;)

    (4) The attack came not from the Germans but from their Asian ally, Japan.

    1 and 2 are both reasonable, but I prefer 1.
    3 and 4 again, are both reasonable, but I prefer 4.

    If this is a test, they are being VERY nit-picky.
