I ran across this phrase in an article: "me deo por repasar mentalmente el tema de los llamados simbolos sexuales"

I think it means going over in (her) mind those who were called sex symbols.
I just can't find the meaning of the initial words "me deo por..." Can someone explain the grammar to me?

I can only think of it as a mistake. The correct phrase must be "me dio por repasar mentalmente el tema de los llamados símbolos sexuales".

I think there is a transcription error "deo" does not exit in this phrase, it is "dio" from the verb "dar".

    Hope the explanation helps! :)

    Hello p1pe,

I hope it's not too late.

Darle a alguien por algo means more or less to suddenly have an impulse to do something or to suddenly have a craving for something. It usually implies that the impulse or craving is crazy or absurd.

    My attempt:

I took it into my head to mentally review the topic of the so-called sexual symbols.

Thank you. This article was about actors in movies who were known as "sex symbols", like Marlon Brando and Elvis and Brad Pitt. And your translation sounds right. Better than mine above.
    Thanks again, good job.
